RV slide-out repair
RepairAnyRV repairs slide-outs on travel trailers and 5th wheels at our shop in Princeton, TX: the seals and wipers, the motor and switch, and the adjustment and alignment. We find out what is wrong first and quote the repair before any work starts.
Symptoms
What a failing slide-out looks like
A slide-out usually tells you something is wrong before it stops working.
- It will not go out or in. You press the switch and nothing moves, or it moves one direction and not the other.
- It stops partway. The slide travels, then quits before it is fully open or fully closed.
- Grinding. A grinding or scraping sound while the slide moves.
- Uneven travel. One side runs ahead of the other, or the slide sits crooked against the opening.
- Water at the seals. Drips, staining, or damp carpet along the slide after rain or a wash.
- A soft floor near the slide. Floor that flexes or gives along the slide edge. Water has been getting past the seals for a while.
The Inspection
What we look at
A slide-out is a mechanism, a seal, and a section of floor and wall that all have to work together, so the inspection covers all of them.
- Seals and wipers. The seals and wipers on the slide, for cracks, flattening, and gaps.
- The floor and wall around the slide. Pressed section by section along the slide edge for soft spots, and checked for staining and delamination in the wall beside it.
- The mechanism. What kind of mechanism drives the slide, since that decides what the repair involves.
- The motor and switch. Whether the slide is getting the power and the signal it needs to move.
- Alignment. How the slide sits and travels in the opening, from one side to the other.
The Repair
What gets fixed
- Seals and wipers. Replaced or reset where they have failed.
- Adjustment and alignment. A slide that travels crooked or binds is adjusted back into line.
- Motor and switch. Replaced when the diagnosis shows they are the problem, not before.
Slide-out motor, rack, and seal repair is part of what we do. We tell you what we found and what the repair involves, and you decide before anything is done.
Past the Slide
When water has already gotten in
A slide seal that leaks does not just drip. The water runs into the floor along the slide edge and into the wall beside it, and by the time the floor feels soft the damage is larger than the seal.
The seal still has to be fixed, and so does whatever it damaged. That is a water damage inspection, where we find out how far the water went before we quote the repair. Sealing a slide over a wet floor only hides it. Slide-out seals are also looked at during a roof and seal repair visit.
Before You Come
What to bring and how booking works
Bring your RV, your keys, and a description of the problem. We handle the rest. Book on the booking page: tell us about your RV and what the slide is doing, pick a first and second choice of day, and add up to three photos if you have them. We email you to confirm the day and a drop-off time. Nothing is booked until we confirm, and no payment is taken when you book.
Service happens at our shop in Princeton. Call ahead and we will help coordinate drop-off.
The Estimate
How the estimate works
We diagnose, quote, and wait for your go-ahead. There is no surprise bill at pickup. If you are not sure whether it is the motor, the switch, the seals, or something else, choose “Not sure / Diagnostic needed” on the booking form and describe the symptom. We figure it out together.
We service travel trailers, 5th wheels, and park models, plus the coach living systems on motorhomes. We do not service engines, drivetrains, or generators.
Questions
Slide-out repair questions
- What does RepairAnyRV repair on a slide-out?
- Slide-out seals and wipers, adjustment and alignment, and the motor and switch. Slide-out motor, rack, and seal repair is part of what we do for travel trailers and 5th wheels. If water has already gotten into the floor or wall around the slide, that is handled as a water damage inspection and repair. Water damage inspection →
- My slide-out will not go in or out. What should I do?
- Book a diagnostic appointment and describe what it does: nothing at all, stops partway, grinds, or moves unevenly. Choose "Slide-Outs / Leveling" on the booking form, or "Not sure / Diagnostic needed" if you cannot tell. We find the cause first, then quote the repair. Call (214) 699-6938 if you would rather talk it through. Book a repair →
- Can a leaking slide-out seal be fixed without replacing the slide?
- Often the seal or wiper is what needs attention, not the whole slide. We look at the seals and wipers and at how the slide sits in the opening, because a leak can come from a seal that has failed or from a slide that is out of alignment. Which one it is gets decided by looking at it.
- Do you inspect the floor and wall around the slide?
- Yes. Water that gets past a slide seal runs into the floor along the slide edge and into the wall beside it, so we check the floor and wall around the slide as part of the inspection and tell you what we find.
- Will I get a quote before you start?
- Yes. We diagnose, quote, and wait for your go-ahead. No payment is taken when you book.
- What should I bring for a slide-out repair?
- Your RV, your keys, and a description of the problem. If you can, add up to three photos on the booking form. A photo of the slide and its seals helps us quote before you arrive.
